Sierra Leone’s Minister of Transport and Aviation, Ambassador Alhaji Fanday Turay Esq., has announced a sharp rise in passenger numbers at Freetown International Airport (FNA) in 2025.
The minister said passenger traffic increased by 18,323 compared to 2024, with more arrivals and departures. ”
This growth reflects strengthened aviation capacity, higher flight frequencies, improved connectivity, and growing confidence in Sierra Leone,” he stated.
Turay explained that the higher traffic shows better links to the world, more flights, and stronger transport systems. These changes are making it easier for investors, tourists, and Sierra Leoneans living abroad to visit the country.
The increase highlights growing trust in the aviation sector and the overall economy. Efforts to upgrade airport facilities and add new airline routes have helped drive the growth.
Stakeholders see this as a sign of economic recovery. They expect more progress in 2026 with new flights and services.
The surge is good news for jobs, local businesses, and tourism. As FNA remains the main gateway to Sierra Leone, the higher passenger numbers point to brighter economic prospects and stronger global ties.
The minister added that investments in aviation are paying off and opening new opportunities for the country.
