Freetown — The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has issued a firm reminder to organisers of entertainment events in Sierra Leone, emphasizing that hosting events without a valid tax clearance certificate constitutes a legal offense.
The NRA highlighted that activities such as parties, outings, musical festivals, album launches, and other similar events fall under the scope of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act of 2009, as amended.
Organisers are required to pay GST on the anticipated revenue from these events as a prerequisite for obtaining the necessary tax clearance certificate.
The authority has urged event planners to adhere to the regulations to avoid penalties. It also encouraged organisers to seek guidance on securing tax clearance by visiting NRA offices or accessing its official communication channels.
The reminder comes as part of the NRA’s efforts to enhance tax compliance and boost revenue generation in the country.
