Freetown November 9, 2023 – In a groundbreaking development, Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has been elected as the global co-chair of C40 Cities, joining forces with London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Expressing gratitude for Mayor Khan’s previous leadership and acknowledging the support of C40 city leaders in addressing the climate emergency, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr emphasized the importance of amplifying the voices of Global South cities in climate action planning.
As the newly elected co-chair, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr is committed to ensuring that the perspectives and needs of Global South cities are not merely included but prioritized, forming the cornerstone of their collective mission.
