Newly appointed Chair of the Energy Governance Coordination Group, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has appreciated and thanked President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for appointing him as Chairman of the Group.
He expressed gratitude to the President for his trust and confidence in his abilities, vowing to work tirelessly to achieve President Bio’s vision of a more progressive, prosperous and inclusive Sierra Leone.
Dr. Yumkella said: “As Chairman, my special assignment seeks to ensure coherence, effective information sharing and coordination within the Ministry of Energy. Thank you President Bio for your trust. We shall endeavor to build a team to achieve your vision for deep sector reforms and transformative investments in Sierra Leone”.
Prior to his new appointment, Dr. Yumkella serves as Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security.
He is to chair the Group, constituted by President Bio as a vehicle to ensure coherence and effective information sharing and coordination within the energy sector.
The Group is specially and strategically tasked with functions including but not limited to the provision of guidance to entities within the energy sector, tackling of immediate and short-term challenges and provision of guidance in the design and roll out of sector investment promotion initiatives.
The Group comprises the Deputy Ministers of Energy l & II, Minister of Finance, CEO of Millennium Challenge Corporation and Chairmen of Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), Electrical Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) and the Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC).
Dr. Yumkella is expected to bring his impressive level of knowledge and experience in the domain of energy governance to positively bear on and or leverage Sierra Leone’s energy potentials and reform endeavours.
