Minister of Information and Civic Education, Hon.Chernor Bah has showcased Sierra Leone’s religious tolerance during the ministerial committee meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC) Standing Committee for Information and Cultural Affairs(COMIAC) held at the King Fahd King Palace Dakar, Senegal.
Speaking on the subject: What role does Muslim youths have in promoting the values of peace, solidarity, and tolerance. Minister Chernoh Bah explained how Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has created a ministry responsible for civic education to undertake enlightenment of the populace and also how the president took education as his priority.
The Minister further showcased Sierra Leone’s religious tolerance and how Sierra Leoneans are living in harmony irrespective of their religious beliefs and practices.
Delivering his statement during the official ceremony, President of Senegal, Macky Sall who also chairs COMIAC spoke on the role of Muslim youths, peace and culture as an undertaking for the future to fight against poverty, ignorance and illiteracy.
In alleviating that, President Macky emphasized the need to invest in education as a way of preparing the youths to have a life. He also spoke about disinformation, misuse of the Internet, and stereotypes as threats to peace and stability.
Hon. Chernoh Bah and his colleagues’ Information Ministers reviewed reports on the activities of the OIC General Secretariat and its affiliated institutions in media, culture, and dialogue among civilizations, tourism, and youth.
They also made recommendations and decisions with the aim of enhancing cooperation and solidarity among the OIC member states in these areas.
