Tokonue, Guinea – June 17, 2025 — A Sierra Leonean national, identified as Sulaiman, tragically lost his life in a work-related accident late at night in the village of Tokonue, Guinea, near the Sierra Leonean border.
According to eyewitness accounts, Sulaiman was struck by a 12-tire truck while carrying out his duties with the Simandou Railway Construction Company, one of West Africa’s largest infrastructure projects currently underway.
In the wake of the incident, the company reportedly offered a compensation package of Le100 million to the bereaved family, though no official statement has yet been released by the company.
The fatal accident has reignited growing concerns about the safety protocols and labor conditions facing Sierra Leonean workers engaged in demanding and hazardous jobs across the region.
