In a major leadership transition, Hawa Turay has been appointed as the new CEO of ECOFEST, a popular music festival that celebrates African culture and unity.
Turay, also known as “Hawawa,” expressed her gratitude and excitement in her first statement as CEO, emphasizing her commitment to expanding ECOFEST’s reach and impact.
“I am deeply honored and incredibly humbled to step into the role of CEO for ECOFEST. This festival not only serves as a focal point for cultural exchange across the African continent but also as a beacon of unity, showcasing the uniqueness and talent that makes our nation exceptional,” she stated.
Turay is focused on enhancing the festival’s global influence while continuing to elevate Sierra Leone’s music and arts scene.
Her predecessor and husband, Abu Bakarr Turay, popularly known as “Kabaka,” congratulated the new CEO, expressing confidence in her leadership.
“Congratulations Hun on your assumption as the new CEO of ECOFEST. Sierra Leone knows what you are capable of doing. You have footprints of excellence in all you do. This won’t be any different,” Kabaka said.
He further described her leadership as pivotal for ECOFEST’s next chapter.
Kabaka announced his resignation as CEO of ECOFEST on Friday via social media, marking the end of his journey with the festival.
“Today is my last day as CEO of ECOFEST. Been quite a journey. Bible says Paul planted, Apollos watered, but God gives the increase,” he shared.
ECOFEST 2024 is scheduled to take place on December 20 and 21, promising to be another landmark event under new leadership.
