Freetown, September 3, 2025 — Mohamed Gento Kamara, who contested the 2023 Freetown mayoral race under the banner of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has officially announced his departure from the political arena.
He attributes his decision to the growing climate of internal division and persistent backstabbing among political circles.
In a candid interview on Radio Democracy, Gento remarked, “Politics is not for me,” stating that entering the political sphere was not a personal aspiration but rather a commitment to advancing peace and minimizing tribal tensions in Freetown.
Though stepping back from partisan life, Gento affirmed that his philanthropic mission remains steadfast. He plans to deepen his involvement in youth empowerment, grassroots community development, and various social causes.
Expressing heartfelt appreciation for the support he received, Gento said his candidacy was born from a belief that leadership should be accessible to anyone guided by genuine intent and a vision for unity.
