FREETOWN – A former navy serviceman, Sidiki Kondeh, has been charged with storebreaking and larceny after allegedly breaking into a military garage and stealing automotive parts, tools, and other items valued at approximately NLe 8,000.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday, August 11, 2025, at the Navy Garage within the Navy Compound in Freetown.
According to court records, Kondeh is accused of unlawfully entering the facility and making off with several items, including two motor alternators, a vehicle part, a drilling machine, a vehicle station, and three pairs of sneakers.
Testifying before the court, military officer Mohamed Mansaray, who works alongside the complainant, mechanic Alpha Sawaneh, identified Kondeh as a former colleague within the compound.
Mansaray said the theft was discovered in the morning when Sawaneh noticed missing property from his garage, leading to an internal search.
Investigators later searched Kondeh’s residence, where they reportedly recovered alternators and other vehicle parts linked to the theft.
Kondeh, however, claimed he had received the items for repair. Authorities dismissed his explanation and subsequently handed him over to the police.
The matter has been adjourned to September 4, 2025, for further proceedings. Kondeh remains in custody pending trial.
