Motorists and transport operators across Sierra Leone have welcomed a major reduction in fuel prices, as leading suppliers National Petroleum (NP) Sierra Leone Limited and Texaco Gas Station announced new rates effective immediately.
According to the latest update, petrol is now being sold at Le25 per litre at both NP and Texaco outlets. Diesel prices have also seen a cut, with NP now offering it at Le24 per litre, while Texaco sells at Le23 per litre —the lowest rate currently on the market.
The announcement was officially made by Texaco’s management during a live broadcast on Radio Bintumani 93.7 in Kabala on Monday. In the broadcast, Texaco representatives emphasized the company’s continued commitment to easing the economic burden on citizens by providing more affordable fuel.
This development follows sustained advocacy by the Native Consortium, a civil society group that has consistently lobbied for lower fuel prices to reduce transportation costs and inflationary pressures on essential goods and services.
Meanwhile, commuters and commercial drivers across the country have expressed optimism that the price cut will soon reflect in reduced transport fares and goods pricing.
Several roadside petrol sellers in Freetown and Bo have already begun adjusting their pump prices in line with the new rates.
As consumers await further announcements from other fuel providers, the reduction is being seen as a welcome relief amidst rising living costs nationwide.
