First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has addressed recent rumors and misconceptions circulating on social media regarding her political ambitions.
A widely shared article suggested she might be positioning herself for the presidency, a claim she strongly refuted in a public statement.
“Today, I want to address an article that has been circulating with the headline ‘Fatima for presidency.’ This is unfair and premature, especially considering President Maada Bio has only been in office for one year with four more years to go. Discussing future political ambitions at this stage is inappropriate,” stated Her Excellency
She emphasized her commitment to supporting President Maada Bio’s administration and its agenda. “Since 2018, when Maada Bio became president, there have been persistent rumors that I seek to succeed him. This narrative is baseless. My sole focus is on supporting my husband’s agenda for Sierra Leone. The choice of the next president lies with the people of Sierra Leone, not with me or Maada Bio,” she asserted.
First Lady Bio urged the public and the media to concentrate on President Maada Bio’s achievements. “Instead of spreading unfounded rumors, we should highlight the significant progress Maada Bio has made for our country. His ‘Big Five’ agenda, particularly in agriculture, deserves our attention and support. We have a president who is making a real difference, and that is where our focus should be.”
She also cautioned against the distractions caused by misleading articles and social media narratives. “This is not the time for distractions. We should unite to promote Maada Bio’s legacy. I am dedicated to impacting people’s lives positively under his leadership,” First Lady emphasized.
Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio clarified that she has no political ambitions at this time and is focused solely on her current role. “I appreciate the recognition, but I am not interested in pursuing a political career right now. My agenda is to ensure Maada Bio succeeds in his promises to the people of Sierra Leone,” she reiterated.
In closing, First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio called for a shift in focus towards the positive changes President Maada Bio has brought to Sierra Leone. “Let’s celebrate and promote the good work being done. I am here to support my husband, not to further any hidden agenda. Any wife would stand by her husband and support him publicly,” she concluded.
