Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Female in Africa Organization has strongly condemned two recent incidents of gender-based violence involving women in the Kenema and Kono districts, calling on authorities to take swift action against the perpetrators.
According to reports, the first incident in Kenema District involved a woman who allegedly lured her husband’s mistress into her home under false pretenses before brutally assaulting her. The second case, which occurred in Kono District, saw a woman reportedly stab her best friend on suspicion of having an affair with her boyfriend.
In a statement issued by the organization, Female in Africa expressed outrage over the incidents, emphasizing the need for justice and accountability. “We are calling on the authorities to take appropriate action against both women immediately,” the statement read.
The organization reiterated its firm stance against violence and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and promoting women’s rights across Sierra Leone. “We believe in the protection and security of women’s rights. Women must be respected and safeguarded under the laws of this country. Our institution remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of women, their families, and their children,” the statement added.
While condemning acts of violence, the group also addressed the issue of infidelity in relationships, advising women to hold their partners accountable rather than attacking other women. “We do not support extramarital affairs, as most of our members are married women. But when you suspect infidelity, confront your husband, not the other woman. That’s where we fail as women—we make cheating men feel like victims when they are the manipulators,” the organization stated.
Female in Africa Organization concluded by urging women to handle relationship conflicts peacefully and lawfully, while appealing to the government and justice institutions to ensure fair and prompt resolution of such cases.
