Raymond Kamara, a 25-year-old student at Fourah Bay College (FBC), is set to face trial at the High Court of Sierra Leone on serious charges including attempted murder.
Kamara is accused of wounding Ishmael Conteh with the intent to murder him in an incident that took place on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at #1 Conteh Drive, No. 2 River Village, Freetown.
The accusations against Kamara are grave, involving three charges: attempted murder, wounding with intent, and assault.
According to court records, the incident began with Kamara allegedly striking Conteh with a stone before stabbing him with one of three objects—a knife, a barbecue fork, or scissors.
During the preliminary investigation, Kamara did not enter a plea. Magistrate Bangura, who presided over the proceedings, explained that the purpose of the preliminary investigation was to determine whether there was sufficient evidence to send the case to the High Court.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, presented five witnesses, including formal witnesses, all of whom were cross-examined.
The testimonies of the witnesses were consistent in their accounts of Kamara’s actions. The medical report, submitted as Exhibit A1-5, supported the severity of the injuries inflicted on Conteh.
Magistrate Bangura concluded that the evidence provided by the prosecution was sufficient to justify the trial at the High Court.
As Kamara prepares for his day in court, the case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the serious nature of the charges and the legal process ahead.
