The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has reported an attack on the Freetown 161 Sub-Station at Kingtom in the early hours of Saturday, 23rd December, 2023.
The assailants, yet to be identified, breached security measures, causing significant damage to transformer number two (2) radiator, resulting in oil leakage and subsequent malfunction of the cooling fan.
As a consequence, transformer number two (2) is currently non-operational, leaving only transformers 1&3 functioning with reduced supply capacity to Freetown.
EDSA advises residents to anticipate supply interruptions in certain areas during this period.
Taking prompt action, the Authority has engaged the Operations and Maintenance Contractor ‘Webuild’ to expedite repairs on the damaged transformer radiator fan.
Despite the setback, the public is reassured that normal power supply will be reinstated to Freetown upon completion of the maintenance work.
Management urges citizens to stay vigilant and patient during this challenging time as efforts are underway to restore uninterrupted power supply to the affected areas.
