In a highly anticipated development, Christopher A.A. Jones, the Assistant Director of Media and Communication at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), has officially confirmed that the results of the recently conducted Village Head election will be unveiled on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 9:30 a.m.
This significant announcement will be made at the ECSL headquarters, situated at Tower Hill, Freetown.
The ECSL had previously issued a press statement, detailing the conclusion of the Village Head elections that took place on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
Acting within its constitutional authority, as granted by Section 33 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No 6 of 1991) and in strict accordance with the provisions of Section 93, 105, and 108 of the Public Election Act 2022 (Act No 17 of 2022), the ECSL meticulously organized the Village Head Elections in the Western Area Rural District.
Voting proceeded peacefully at 663 out of the 668 polling stations distributed across eight villages. However, one polling center, specifically polling center 15327 in Mile 13 Sussex Kingtom, had to cancel voting due to a logistical issue involving the polling center.
Throughout the electoral process, candidate agents were actively present in all polling stations, and security was ensured with the notable presence of the Sierra Leone Police, RSLAF, and ONS. International organizations such as the Elections Observation Network (EON), Sierra Leone Civil Rights Coalition (SLRC), International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), and Diaspora Focus diligently observed the elections. Voting wrapped up in the entire Western Area Rural District at 5:00 p.m. on October 28, 2023.
Presently, counting is underway in all 667 polling stations, with the election results for the Village Head Elections set to be tallied at the ECSL National Tally Centre in Wellington on Monday, October 30, 2023, commencing at 10 a.m. A detailed timeline for the tallying process will soon be disclosed to the public.
Candidate agents and accredited observers are cordially invited to witness this crucial tallying process. Provisional results for all the Village Head Elections will be declared once the tallying of results is complete at the ECSL National Tally Centre in Wellington, Freetown.
Stay tuned for this pivotal announcement.
