Freetown — Magistrate Samuel Koroma of Pademba Road Court No. 4 has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of popular businessman Malador, proprietor of Malador Traveling Agency, in connection with an alleged $30,000 fraud.
Malador faces charges of conspiracy to defraud and fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20 (1) (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to court documents, the accused is alleged to have conspired with unknown individuals on August 26, 2024, in Freetown to defraud Roseline Fatu Cowan of thirty thousand United States dollars — an amount said to be equivalent to seven hundred twenty-nine thousand Leones (Le729,000). The funds were reportedly given to Malador by the complainant to facilitate international travel arrangements to the United States.
During the court session, counsel for the complainant, Ibrahim S.Y. Kamara, informed the bench that Malador had been duly served with the indictment but deliberately failed to appear in court. Kamara therefore requested the issuance of a bench warrant, which was promptly granted by the magistrate.
Reports suggest that Malador has been implicated in similar scams targeting unsuspecting clients, many of whom have been unable to seek legal redress due to financial constraints.
The matter is expected to return to court once the accused is apprehended.
