FREETOWN, 13th October 2026 – President Julius Maada Bio has summoned Parliament to resume sittings this Friday, 16th October 2026, the Office of the Clerk of Parliament has announced.
In a notice dated 12th October and signed by Clerk Hon. Karmuh K. Conteh, Parliament said it was directed by His Excellency the President through the Speaker, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, pursuant to Section 86 (1) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991, which gives the President powers to summon Parliament.
The notice, addressed to the Leadership and all Members of Parliament, said:
“The Office of the Clerk of Parliament wishes to inform Members of Parliament that His Excellency the President has directed the resumption of Parliamentary Sittings… on Friday, 16th October 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chamber of Parliament, Parliament Building, Tower Hill, Freetown.”
“Members of Parliament are therefore summoned to attend and on time.”
Copies were also sent to the Minister of Finance and the Financial Secretary, with specific instructions for the Ministry of Finance to forward all Development Policy Operations (DPOs) to Parliament for ratification.
DPOs are World Bank-backed budget support agreements that require parliamentary ratification before funds can be disbursed to support the national budget.
The summons comes as Parliament has been on recess since August following the heated passage of the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which is now being challenged at the Supreme Court.
Friday’s sitting will be the first plenary sitting of the Sixth Parliament since the recess.
