Freetown, July 25, 2025 — Bai Mahmoud Bangura, the Organizing Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC), has officially resigned from his position, deepening speculation about his potential bid for the party’s flagbearer slot ahead of upcoming elections.
In a resignation letter dated July 25 and addressed to the APC National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya Esq., Bangura did not state a specific reason for his decision to step down. However, he extended his “heartfelt thanks and appreciation” to the party for the opportunity to serve in the role.
While the circumstances surrounding his resignation remain unclear, political observers suggest it may be linked to his rumored interest in contesting for the party’s leadership.
Bangura is now believed to be among over 17 individuals who have tacitly expressed interest in becoming the APC’s next flagbearer.
The development adds to growing intrigue within the main opposition party as it prepares for a competitive internal contest that could shape its direction ahead of the 2028 general elections.
