Freetown, Sierra Leone — On Wednesday, November 15, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone presented its 2023 Annual Report to President Brigadier (Rtd.) Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House in Freetown.
During the ceremony, ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala Esq. highlighted the significant progress made in combating corruption over the past year.
“In 2023, Sierra Leone made remarkable strides in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index, ranking 108 out of 180 countries with a score of 35—above the Sub-Saharan average,” Kaifala stated.
He also noted that the Commission successfully relocated to its ultra-modern headquarters, Integrity House, funded entirely by the Government of Sierra Leone.
President Bio commended the ACC for its achievements, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to the fight against corruption.
“My Government will remain vigilant to ensure that the gains made in the fight against corruption are sustained,” the President said. He reaffirmed his support for the Commission’s efforts to curb corruption for the benefit of the people of Sierra Leone.
Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie, in his welcome address, outlined key successes of the ACC in 2023.
He highlighted the Commission’s collaboration with the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) to implement the Productive Social Safety Net program, funded by the Government of Sierra Leone, the World Bank, and UNICEF.
The presentation of the Annual Report complies with Section 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008, as amended in 2019. The report details the Commission’s activities, achievements, and challenges during the year.
