Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Annie Walsh Memorial School emerged victorious in the 2024 National Cyber Awareness Schools Debate, scoring 26.6% to claim the top prize of NLe20,000 and two laptops, along with various other awards.
The second-place position went to International School Limited Secondary, with a score of 24.6%, earning NLe10,000 and two tablets.
The heated final round took place on October 31 at the View Freetown City Council Hall. Representing Annie Walsh Memorial School, Nyada Ruth Cole and Esther A.A. Kamara squared off against Afwa Russell and Prosper F.M. Kamara of International School Limited Secondary, debating the contentious topic, “Social Media Influencers should be held responsible for the actions of their followers.”
The National Cybersecurity Coordination Center, in collaboration with the Ministries of Communications, Education, the World Bank, and UNDP, organized the event, focusing on timely cybersecurity issues. Sixteen schools participated in the debate, which ran from October 14 to October 29, leading up to the grand finale.
