The Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation is set to establish a Technology City in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone.
The proposed Technology City will serve as a hob where youths will be trained in different technological areas including Artificial Technology (AI) to solve the growing problems of the world in terms of technology.
On Saturday 14th October 2023, the deputy minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation Ibrahim Sannoh, as instructed by President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and the Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, held an engagement with stakeholders in Bo including the District Council Chairman Victor Korseh Hindowa, the Mayor of Bo City Council Koba Musa, the Paramount Chief of Tikonko Chiefdom Prof. Makavory, for an arrangement to secure 150 acres of land for the establishment of the said Technology City.
The Deputy Minister said that the dream to open a Technology City in Sierra Leone has long been developed by President Bio noting that the technology institution – once established – will create opportunities for Sierra Leonean youths to develop themselves with technological innovations that will solve the country’s problems in terms of agriculture, education, and many other areas.
Ibrahim Sannoh informed that Bill Gates has already announced the donation of 30 million dollars to Sierra Leone for the development of Artificial Technology (AI) and innovation, a money that would be used for the said project.
He mentioned that the establishment will also be beneficial for the middle level man power, something that perfectly coincides with President Bio’s vision of human capital development, whilst confirming that the Technology City will give new appellations to Bo – names such as Bo the Innovation City, Bo the Technological Hob etc.
The Chairman, Victor Korseh Hindowa and the Mayor Koba Musa expressed their deepest appreciation to President Bio for chosing Bo City as a centre where this remarkable development will be done. They have vowed to throw their commitment and support to the establishment of the Technology City.
The Paramount Chief of Tikonko Chiefdom Prof. Makavory agreed to make available the 130 acres of land for the project. As a sign of his commitment, a visit was made to the cite where the establishment will take place and a land after Torwama Village, not far away from Njala University Bo Campus, has already been identified for the proposed project.
