Popular Liberian musician residing in Sierra Leonean, Alonzo, known for his strong anti-drug messages in music, has been arrested by Liberian authorities in connection with a major drug bust at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry in Grand Cape Mount County.
The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) confirmed that on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at around 6:30 PM, four individuals, including Alonzo—identified as Alonso Yeah, a 35-year-old Liberian artist residing in Sierra Leone—were apprehended during a routine vehicle inspection.
According to the LDEA, 844 grams of Methcathinone, a powerful synthetic drug valued at over USD 8,400, were discovered hidden in the rear door of a blue Nissan Primera with license plate number A120421.
The other suspects include two Sierra Leoneans, Eariel Xavises Aweti, 36, and Samuel R. Grey, 28, along with 25-year-old Liberian Matthew Sherman.

What has shocked fans and the public is Alonzo’s arrest, given his high-profile involvement in anti-drug campaigns across the Mano River region. He is known for songs that promote youth empowerment and warn against the dangers of drug abuse.
The LDEA described the seizure as the first known attempt to smuggle Methcathinone into Liberia and assured the public that all suspects have been handed over for investigation and will be prosecuted.
Meanwhile, authorities are calling on the public to support the fight against drug trafficking by reporting suspicious activities to the LDEA via its hotline.
This arrest has sparked major concern in Sierra Leone’s entertainment circles, as fans await further developments.
