In a surprising move, celebrated journalist Amadu Lamrana Bah has announced his resignation from African Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire.
Bah shared the news in a heartfelt online message, citing personal reasons for his departure.
“This is to inform the public that I have resigned from the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media. The reason for my resignation is purely personal,” Bah stated.
Bah joined AYV Media in 2018 and played a pivotal role in the network’s success. He co-presented the flagship breakfast program “Wake Up Sierra Leone,” hosted the widely acclaimed “Hot Seat” program, and held several senior positions, including Head of Digital Media, Deputy Head of News and Current Affairs, and most recently, Director of News and Current Affairs.
Reflecting on his tenure, Bah expressed deep gratitude to AYV’s CEO and President, Anthony Navo Jr., the management team, and his colleagues.
“It has been an incredible experience, and I want to thank the CEO and President, Anthony Navo Jr., management and colleagues in the newsroom, and all the other departments for their support; we’ve achieved a lot together,” he wrote.
Bah also extended his appreciation to his collaborators and the audience who supported him. “Thanks to everyone who I have collaborated with on different projects during my time at AYV, those who have supported me throughout this journey, our audience who have been commending me, praying, and advising on how to be better, and also those who have genuinely criticized what I was doing. It has honestly made me better. I am grateful.”
Assuring his supporters of his ongoing dedication, Bah emphasized his commitment to continue working as an independent journalist. “Please be assured that I will continue to do my work freely as an independent journalist. Thank you all for your continued support.”
Based in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Bah has over a decade of experience in multimedia journalism, including roles at Star Radio and TV, and serving as Deputy Head of News and Current Affairs at AYV. His interests span politics, governance, economics, human rights, business, and development stories.
Currently, he is also the President of the Sierra Leone Reporters Union, advocating for better conditions for reporters.
Recognized in March 2024 as ‘Journalist of the Year 2023’ by the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Bah has a reputation for speaking truth to power and holding public officials accountable.
His recent inquiries into President Julius Maada Bio’s international travels and the purchase of a Maybach Benz Jeep amidst economic hardship in Sierra Leone led to threats and online attacks against him. SLAJ issued a press statement defending Bah, underscoring the importance of press freedom and journalist safety.
