Freetown, 5th November, 2026 – The Residential Elderly Care Foundation will on Saturday, 7th November, 2026 bring communities together for its Fun Games for All Ages Trophy 2026, an initiative to promote active ageing, social inclusion, healthy living and community unity.
The event will take place at the SS Camp Field, Regent, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., bringing together five communities in a friendly sporting competition in support of older people.
The participating communities are Tengbeh Town, Congo Town, Ascension Town, Dwarzark and Gwent Heights/Wilberforce Barracks.
Organised in support of the elderly, the competition seeks to challenge the notion that sports and physical activities are only for young people, and to create opportunities for people of all generations, particularly older citizens, to remain socially active, physically engaged and connected to their communities.
Speaking ahead of the event, Executive Director Karifa Thoronka said older people deserve opportunities to participate in community activities, enjoy recreational sports and experience the happiness that comes with friendship, togetherness and healthy competition.
“The Fun Games for All Ages Trophy is not simply about winning a trophy. It is about recognising the contributions of older people,” Thoronka said.
He added that the initiative helps strengthen relationships among communities and encourages younger generations to appreciate and respect their elders.
The event is also expected to provide an opportunity for community members, development partners, sponsors and well-wishers to demonstrate commitment to elderly welfare and inclusive community development.
With five communities set to compete for the coveted trophy, Saturday promises excitement, laughter, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The Foundation is encouraging the general public, community leaders, sports enthusiasts, civil society organisations and development partners to turn out in large numbers to support the initiative.
