FREETOWN, 6th October 2026 – The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has issued a strong warning to the general public against encroachment, unauthorized occupation, and illegal dealings involving its properties across Sierra Leone.
In a Public Notice signed by its Director General, Chernor M. Jalloh, the Trust said it has received reports of encroachment and unauthorized occupation of its lands and properties in different parts of the country.
NASSIT stated that all its properties belong to the beneficiaries of the Trust and are held for their benefit. The Trust vowed to take all appropriate lawful action to recover its properties and protect those assets.
“No person may occupy, build on, sell or lease NASSIT property without the Trust’s written authorization. All persons engaged in unauthorized activities on NASSIT properties must stop immediately,” the Notice stated.
The Trust also warned members of the public against buying, leasing, or accepting allocations of NASSIT land from unauthorized persons, noting that such transactions are illegal and will not be recognized.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over land grabbing and illegal sale of institutional lands in Freetown and in the regions, a problem that has affected several government and public institutions.
NASSIT is the state institution responsible for administering Sierra Leone’s national social security scheme, providing retirement and other benefits to workers. Its investments in land and properties are part of its portfolio to secure funds for contributors.
