The Office of the President has formally notified the leaders of all registered political parties of His Excellency the President’s intention to appoint Mrs. Madiana Nyanda Boakae-Samba as Electoral Commissioner for the Southern Province.
In a letter dated 8 September 2026 (Reference: SF/BF 50/430/01) and signed by the Secretary to the President, Barba B. Fortune, the State House cited Section 32(3) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991 (Act No. 6 of 1991).
The provision states that members of the Electoral Commission “shall be appointed by the President after consultation with the leaders of all registered political parties and subject to the approval of Parliament.”
The letter states that, in view of this constitutional requirement, the President is consulting the leadership of the political parties on his intention to appoint Mrs. Boakae-Samba to the position. Party leaders have been requested to submit their views on the proposal within three working days from the date of the letter.
The communication is addressed to the Chairmen of the following registered parties: Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), All Peoples Congress (APC), Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDP), National Democratic Alliance (NDA), National Grand Coalition (NGC), Coalition for Change (C4C), National Unity and Reconciliation Party (NURP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Peace and Liberation Party (PLP).
The appointment, if confirmed following the consultation process and subsequent parliamentary approval, would fill the Southern Province seat on the Electoral Commission.
