Twenty-five brand-new Golden Dragon buses have been cleared from the Queen Elizabeth II Quay and moved to a bus terminal in Freetown, APC presidential aspirant Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban, announced Friday.
The fleet consists of 15 Golden Dragon XML6122J35Y units and 10 XML6722J18 units. All are 2025 models with zero mileage and were imported directly from the manufacturer.
Officials said registration and remaining regulatory approvals are now being completed. Once finished, the buses are expected to enter service on routes across the country.
Jagaban described the delivery as part of a wider effort to upgrade public transport, lower travel costs, create jobs and boost economic activity.
The initiative aims to put more safe and reliable buses on the road for students, market traders, workers and the general public, while generating employment for drivers, conductors, mechanics and other support staff, with a particular focus on young Sierra Leoneans.
The buses are also intended to strengthen transport links between Freetown and major towns including Bo, Kenema, Makeni and Kono, supporting trade and inter-district connectivity.
The transfer from the port to the terminal marks another step toward putting the new fleet into operation, the statement said.
