Freetown, Sierra Leone — Former Sierra Leone international and ex-Leone Stars head coach Mohamed Kallon has taken to social media to congratulate the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) on the appointment of French-Portuguese tactician Didier Gomes Da Rosa as the new manager of the national team.
In a heartfelt post, Kallon expressed gratitude to players, fans, friends, and football enthusiasts worldwide for their support during his tenure. He wrote:
“All praise is to Allah. A big thank you to the players, fans, friends and football fanatics around the globe for your incredible support to me and the Sierra Leone national team. Nar the truth dae last 🤲🏾
God help and bless mama Salone ❤️ 🙏🏾
I will be back stronger and super determined one day, God time is the best 💪🏾.😁
Wishing our darling Leone stars all the best of luck 💙🇸🇱.”
Kallon’s message strikes a positive and resilient tone despite his recent dismissal from the role in April 2026 following a technical and strategic review by the SLFA.
The legendary former captain, who became the youngest player to represent Sierra Leone at the senior level at age 15 and enjoyed a decorated playing career, had reapplied for the position after his exit.
Didier Gomes Da Rosa, 56, brings extensive experience coaching across Africa and the Middle East, including stints with Botswana, Mauritania, Simba SC (Tanzania), Horoya AC (Guinea), and more recently clubs in Libya and Saudi Arabia. He is known for his emphasis on discipline, tactical organization, and delivering results in challenging environments. His appointment comes as Sierra Leone looks to rebuild and improve competitiveness in upcoming international fixtures.
The move has sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some advocating strongly for Kallon’s return due to his deep connection to Sierra Leonean football, while others welcome the fresh perspective of an experienced foreign coach.
Kallon, often referred to as a national icon, first took charge of the Leone Stars in 2025. His playing legacy includes captaining the side and scoring memorable goals for the team over nearly two decades.
As the Leone Stars prepare for the next phase under Da Rosa, Kallon’s public show of support and promise to return “stronger” highlights the passion and unity within Sierra Leonean football. Fans will be watching closely to see how the new coach performs in qualifiers and friendlies, while many continue to hope for Kallon’s future involvement in some capacity.
