Freetown, Sierra Leone – April 13, 2026 – The All Peoples Congress (APC) has released an official statement addressing the ongoing visit of the International Moral Guarantors to Sierra Leone, while strongly reaffirming its position on the need for genuine electoral reform.
In the statement dated 13 April 2026 and signed by Lansana Dumbuya Esq., National Secretary General of the APC, the party informed the public and its membership about the visit, which was convened in response to concerns raised by the APC regarding the Agreement for National Unity (ANU) and the implementation of the Tripartite Committee Recommendations.
The APC noted that the visit follows sustained engagement by the party with both national stakeholders and international partners. It highlighted what it described as a “lack of meaningful progress” in implementing agreed electoral reforms and the growing challenges facing Sierra Leone’s democratic process.
“Since the signing of the ANU and submission of the report of the Tripartite Committee, the APC has consistently acted in good faith,” the statement read. “However, the Party remains deeply concerned that key provisions of the agreements, particularly those relating to electoral reform, transparency, and institutional accountability, have not been adequately implemented.”
Concerns Over Electoral Commissioner Appointment
A major point of contention raised in the document is the recent appointment of Edmond Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner. The APC believes this appointment undermines public confidence in the electoral process at a critical time when trust in democratic institutions needs to be strengthened.
In response to these developments, the APC announced it has taken the “difficult but necessary decision” to withdraw its Members of Parliament and Local Council representatives from governance structures, pending meaningful progress on the implementation of agreed reforms.
