Freetown, April 2, 2026 – Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Cyril Arnold Grant, has commended the collaborative effort between the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) following the launch of a WhatsApp-based fault reporting chatbot designed to improve communication between electricity consumers and service providers.
Speaking at the launch event held at the Ministry of Energy’s conference room in Freetown, the Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the digital platform, describing it as a major step toward enhancing service delivery in the country’s power sector.
He explained that the tool allows customers to quickly report issues such as low voltage, fallen poles, damaged cables, tripping, vandalized electricity installations, faulty meters, and other electricity-related incidents.
According to the Minister, the platform provides a convenient and accessible channel for consumers to urgently communicate electricity concerns directly to EDSA.
He added that the system will also enable users to access load-shedding schedules, particularly during periods when electricity supply is significantly reduced.
Deputy Minister of Energy I, Edmond Nonie, acknowledged the ongoing challenges facing the electricity sector and assured the public that efforts are underway to address the issues.
He noted that the chatbot represents an important step in strengthening customer engagement and improving response time to service complaints.
Director General of EDSA, George Taylor, welcomed the initiative, stating that the digital tool will help improve responsiveness to customer concerns and enhance overall service delivery.
The WhatsApp fault reporting chatbot is the result of a technology-driven partnership between EDSA and DSTI, aimed at modernizing communication channels and improving the management of electricity-related complaints.
Authorities say continued reforms in the energy sector remain closely aligned with the government’s broader development priorities, including the Feed Salone initiative, as efforts continue to strengthen infrastructure and public service delivery.
