The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has completed a thorough three-day refresher course for CAF Licence C coaches, reaffirming its dedication to ongoing capacity-building and professional development across the nation.
The course, organised by the SLFA Technical Department, blended theory-based instruction with hands-on, field-based activities to ensure participants left with current knowledge and skills they could use right away.
The programme emphasised modern player management, coaching methodologies, and other technical aspects in line with current global football trends. Sessions were designed to bridge the gap between theoretical principles and real-world match or training-ground scenarios, allowing coaches to translate modern practices into better training sessions and player development strategies.
John Edward Keister, the SLFA Technical Director and CAF Licensed Coaching Instructor, spearheaded the project with the help of a top-notch group of national team coaches and CAF Licence A holders, including Mohamed Lamin Kamara, Musa Kallon, and Amidu Karim. Their combined experience gave participants a well-rounded curriculum that covered organisational, technical, and tactical aspects of coaching at both competitive and grassroots levels.
Specialist sessions from Alhaji Sanusi Rashid, the SLFA Referees Manager, who explained current interpretations of the game’s laws, and Alhaji Sanusi Rashid, the SLFA Safeguarding Officer, who educated coaches on player welfare and safeguarding principles, improved the course. These additions emphasised the association’s comprehensive approach to coach education, acknowledging the value of technical instruction combined with legal, ethical, and safety considerations.
This refresher is part of the SLFA’s larger strategic vision to improve coaching standards, strengthen grassroots development, and keep Sierra Leone football in line with international best practices.
The SLFA’s investment in coach education aims to create a more professional and sustainable football ecosystem across the country. #SierraLeone
