A police officer has been arrested after the National Revenue Authority’s Anti-Smuggling Unit uncovered a large consignment of tramadol at the Gbalamuya Border Crossing.
According to an NRA statement, the seizure occurred during a routine joint inspection conducted with the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU).
The team discovered the drugs in the possession of Police Inspector Saio Koroma, who was travelling in a commercial vehicle with licence plate ARW 498.
Authorities say the confiscated consignment included seven wraps each containing 20 boxes of tramadol (100mg), with each box holding 10 blisters of 10 capsules, in addition to another 10 boxes of the same strength.
Inspector Koroma was immediately arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into security personnel suspected of aiding the movement of illegal substances.
The incident has intensified concerns over law enforcement involvement in the illicit drug trade, with several officers previously dismissed and charged in related cases.
