The Sierra Leone national football team, Leone Stars, has safely arrived in Guinea-Bissau ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against the Djurtus, scheduled for September 4, 2025.
The team departed Freetown International Airport on Monday, September 1, aboard a chartered Air Sierra Leone flight, a move widely seen as a demonstration of President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to ensuring comfort and dignity for the national squad.
The initiative was jointly supported by the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA), both of which have pledged full backing to Leone Stars’ campaign.
Commenting on the development, NSA Executive Director Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai said the collaboration between the Ministry of Sports, the NSA, and the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) reflects a shared vision to reposition Leone Stars as a source of national pride.
“We will continue to explore more for the team,” he assured.
Team Manager Abdul Karim Bangura (AKB) also expressed gratitude to the government, noting that the journey to Guinea-Bissau was smooth and well-organized.
The NSA, established by an Act of Parliament, continues to play a central role in promoting and developing sports across Sierra Leone.
