The Motema Division of the Sierra Leone Police has charged a woman to court for alleged cruelty to a child following a disturbing incident in Njagbwema Town, Nimikoro Chiefdom, Kono District.
The accused, Doris Bangura of Njagbwema Town, was formally charged after an incident that reportedly occurred on 14 February 2026.
According to reports made by Zainab Mattia and Tamba, both residents of the same community, the suspect was arrested for allegedly setting fire to the hand of her seven-year-old niece.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the child sustained injuries as a result of the alleged act.
During police questioning, the suspect reportedly expressed remorse, claiming that she acted out of frustration over the child’s alleged repeated theft of small sums of money.
