On Saturday, 26th October, Chairman Kasho J. Holland Cole of the Western Area Rural District Council convened a crucial security meeting with key stakeholders, including the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Waterloo Police Division, the RSLAF Commandant of Benguema Barracks, the Office of National Security (ONS) representative at the council, and headmen from across the district.
The meeting aimed to address pressing security concerns raised by the headmen and clarify issues regarding land complaints within the communities.
Chairman Kasho emphasized the importance of cooperation between community leaders and security personnel, instructing headmen to avoid confronting security officers deployed in their villages. Instead, he urged them to report such matters to the district chairman, the LUC, the army commandant, or the ONS representative at the council.
The LUC reassured the headmen that the deployment of police personnel in communities is under control and stated that any future deployments must be communicated through him or the ONS representative.
Chairman Kasho also reminded the headmen of their responsibility to protect community lands from unauthorized sales, highlighting the importance of land for development.
He warned that if communities lack available land, they risk losing potential development projects to other areas.
