Freetown — The Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire has named acclaimed journalist Umaru Fofana as its new Consultant Managing Director, a move aimed at bolstering the organization’s operational strength and long-term ambitions in Sierra Leone’s competitive media sector.
Fofana, who takes up the role with immediate effect, will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, steering strategic expansion initiatives, boosting efficiency, and elevating AYV’s overall standing in both local and regional media landscapes.
Announcing the appointment, AYV Chief Executive Officer Ambassador Anthony Navo Jr. described the timing as pivotal.
“As we push to broaden our audience reach, uplift the quality of our content, and integrate fresh innovations across our platforms, Umaru Fofana’s expertise arrives at just the right moment,” Navo said.
Fofana brings decades of distinguished experience to the position. A former President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), he has served as a longtime correspondent for the BBC and has contributed reporting to major international outlets including Reuters and NPR. His career spans coverage of major events across Africa and beyond, earning him a reputation for integrity, depth, and leadership in journalism.
Industry observers view the appointment as a significant boost for AYV, signaling a clear commitment to professional excellence and repositioning the media group for greater influence and sustainability in an evolving media environment.
