In a decisive and historic election, Tuma Adama Gento Jabbi has been elected as the new President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA).
Garnering a substantial majority, Jabbi secured 506 votes, vastly outpacing her competitors Wara Serry Kamal, who received 23 votes, and Augustine S. Marrah, who garnered 15 votes.
The election, held amid considerable anticipation and regarded as free and fair by observers, witnessed the participation of 1,200 registered voters.
Out of these, 572 members cast their ballots, with 28 votes recorded as void. Despite this minor discrepancy, the overwhelming support for Jabbi underscored her strong backing within the legal fraternity.
Jabbi’s victory is particularly noteworthy, marking a significant milestone in the association’s history. Her successful campaign centered on crucial issues such as improving legal education, advocating for judicial independence, and upholding the rule of law in Sierra Leone.
Observers noted that the large margin of victory not only reflects the confidence the legal community has in Jabbi but also signals a clear mandate for her leadership.
As she prepares to take on her new role, Jabbi’s presidency is anticipated to bring about positive changes and reinforce the SLBA’s commitment to justice and legal integrity in the country.
