Freetown, Sierra Leone – 28 November 2025: The Chief Executive Officer of Sonatel Group, Mr. Brelotte BA, has pledged the company’s continued long-term investment in Sierra Leone’s digital transformation, announcing plans to fast-track nationwide 4G expansion and strengthen telecommunications infrastructure.
He made the commitment during a courtesy visit to President Julius Maada Bio at State House on Friday.
Introducing the visiting delegation, Orange Sierra Leone CEO Sekou Amadou Bah described Mr. BA as an accomplished telecommunications leader with over two decades of experience across the Sonatel and Orange networks in Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea.
He emphasized that the Group CEO brings extensive regional expertise and a renewed drive to enhance service quality and coverage in Sierra Leone.
Mr. BA reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s strategic importance within the Sonatel Group and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve connectivity.
“Orange Sierra Leone currently delivers 80 percent of 4G services across the country,” he said. “We are moving quickly to broaden this coverage so more communities can benefit from fast and reliable mobile internet. Our investment focus remains on building resilient infrastructure that supports Sierra Leone’s digital ambitions.”
He also pointed to the Group’s commitment to digital inclusion, noting that Orange Sierra Leone has established seven digital schools and intends to expand similar technology-driven initiatives nationwide.
He thanked President Bio for fostering a stable and supportive investment climate for the telecoms sector.
President Julius Maada Bio welcomed the delegation and commended Sonatel and Orange Sierra Leone for their continued contributions to national development.
He underscored the pivotal role of telecommunications in driving economic growth.
“Reliable and affordable communication services are essential for competitiveness,” the President said. “Expanding 4G nationwide is a priority, and we appreciate your commitment to strengthening our digital infrastructure.”
President Bio further applauded the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts, especially the establishment of digital schools, which he said aligns with government goals to improve access to technology-based learning.
He reiterated Sierra Leone’s openness to long-term investment partners. “Enhanced connectivity brings us closer to fully participating in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” President Bio noted. “My administration remains open to investors ready to support our development agenda.”
