LAGOS, Nigeria – 21 October 2026 – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria has arraigned a Sierra Leonean national, Favour Foday Kamara, before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for alleged fraud involving $190,324 (about NLe 4.5 million).
Kamara was arraigned on Tuesday, 20th October 2026, before Justice O. A. Okunuga by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the EFCC in Ikoyi, on a two-count charge bordering on stealing and fraudulent conversion.
According to the EFCC, the case was reported by the complainant, Mrs. Henrietta Vandi, a 70-year-old United States-based Sierra Leonean, who alleged that she met Kamara during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos between 2019 and 2020.
Vandi claimed that during their meetings, Kamara encouraged her to invest back home and in Nigeria, and she subsequently sent him money through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and direct transfers into his Access Bank account for the purchase and renovation of a property located at 20/30 Gbenga Ogunleye/Atobatele Street, Cele Bus Stop, Araromi, Alimosho, Lagos.
EFCC investigation however alleged that the property was bought in Kamara’s name, that he now resides in it and collects rent from tenants.
One of the charges reads: “That you, Favour Foday Kamara, between August 2021 and February, 2025, at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonestly converted to your use the sum of $190,324.00 USD, property of one Mrs. Henrietta Vandi, thereby committing an offence of stealing, contrary to Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of The Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
Kamara pleaded not guilty to both counts when they were read to him.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel Nnaemeka Omewa asked for a trial date and for the defendant to be remanded in a correctional centre.
Justice Okunuga adjourned the matter to October 29, 2026 for trial and ordered that Kamara be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending then.
The EFCC is Nigeria’s anti-graft agency that investigates and prosecutes financial crimes.
