Port Loko, Sierra Leone – July 3, 2025 – Law enforcement officers from the Maforki Division of the Sierra Leone Police have intercepted a significant cache of ammunition in Port Loko, raising fresh concerns over the illegal movement of arms in the region.
According to police sources, a routine operation led to the discovery of 250 shotgun cartridges neatly packed in ten boxes, each containing 25 rounds.
The ammunition was found concealed in a blue taxi with registration number AXH 890, driven by a man identified as Abu Bakar Sesay, a resident of Freetown.
During preliminary questioning, Sesay reportedly informed investigators that the cartridges did not belong to him but were the property of another individual who remains at large. Police say he is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the intended destination of the ammunition or the identity of the alleged owner. However, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) say they are actively pursuing leads.
