A significant drug-related operation took place on February 11, 2025, when police personnel stationed at the Wanjama Checkpoint arrested a driver, identified as Alpha Kamara, a resident of No. 88b Old Wharf Road, Wellington, Freetown.
Kamara’s truck, bearing registration number ATB 645, was found to contain dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa, commonly referred to as “Jamba.”
Sergeant Mohammed Massaqouoi, the Officer in Charge at the Wanjama checkpoint, reported that the incident occurred during a routine inspection of vehicles. During the search, officers discovered six large bundles of the suspected narcotics, which were promptly seized for further examination.
Despite the substantial quantity of the seized narcotics, no one has come forward to claim ownership of the cargo. The driver has denied any knowledge of the contents and is currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Police and military personnel attached to the Wanjama Checkpoint have reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of the community. They are urging anyone with information related to this case or similar activities to come forward and inform the police.
