In a significant development, the Government, in collaboration with the National Telecommunications Authority and the Ministry of Communications, Technology, and Innovation, has successfully concluded negotiations with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) regarding proposed tariff revisions.
This negotiation comes in response to MNOs’ requests for over a 100% increase in mobile service tariffs, citing various factors such as inflation, rising fuel and electricity costs, which have substantially impacted their operational expenses.
The fruitful discussions have yielded a series of major victories for the Government and the MNOs, which include the restoration of bonuses and promotions, as well as an enhanced quality of services. As a result, both parties have reached an agreement on the following adjustments to mobile phone tariffs:
- The floor price for mobile voice calls will witness an increment of Nle0.68.
- The price ceiling for mobile voice calls will experience a raise of Nle0.76.
- The fixed price for mobile data services is set to increase by Nle5.
These revised tariffs are scheduled to come into effect on Monday, November 6, 2023.
The Government’s successful negotiations reflect its commitment to ensuring equitable and sustainable mobile services for the general public, balancing the needs of both consumers and mobile operators.
