In a historic move aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and facilitating seamless travel, Sierra Leone and South Africa have jointly declared an agreement to eliminate visa requirements for holders of Diplomatic, Service, and Official passports in both nations.
The groundbreaking announcement was made during an official courtesy visit by South African High Commissioner to Ghana and Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Grace Jeanet Mason, to Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy M. Kabba.
The visa waiver, set to go into effect on November 30, 2023, is a significant milestone in advancing diplomatic relations between these two African nations. Minister Kabba warmly embraced this decision, underlining its alignment with the ministry’s mission to promote international cooperation.
This bilateral agreement is seen as mutually advantageous, as both Sierra Leone and South Africa aspire to promote unrestricted movement, stimulate investment, and foster overall development. The two countries share a history of fruitful bilateral relations, particularly in the realms of education and development.
Minister Kabba also shed light on the crucial priorities of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, focusing on pivotal areas such as education, food security, energy, mining, tourism, and investment.
He extended an open invitation to potential investors to explore the abundant opportunities within these sectors, aiming for mutual growth and prosperity.
