The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) is taking part in the second edition of the Africa Military Games (AMGA), currently underway in Abuja, Nigeria.
The competition, which began on November 18, 2024, offers a unique platform for military teams to showcase their talents and build camaraderie among participants.
Headed by Major General CF Marrah, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Defence, the RSLAF delegation consists of 14 members. The team departed Freetown on Sunday, November 17, 2024, for Abuja, passing through the Republic of Liberia en route.
Sierra Leone’s participation reflects the nation’s commitment to promoting peace and security across the region, while also demonstrating the RSLAF’s capabilities in sports.
The games present an opportunity for the RSLAF to engage in non-kinetic operations, building connections with fellow African military forces and exchanging best practices. It is expected that such interactions will foster greater stability and security across the continent.
The RSLAF Volleyball team is already finalizing preparations for their first match, scheduled for Monday, November 24, 2024. The Ministry of Defence and RSLAF leadership are confident that the team will perform admirably and make the nation proud. A strong showing in the competition would bring numerous benefits, including enhanced sports development, global recognition, and a sense of national pride.
The AMGA competition sees teams from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, and host country Nigeria participating alongside the RSLAF Volleyball squad. As the games unfold, the MoD/RSLAF urges all Sierra Leoneans and corporate organizations to show support for the team. This event exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and friendship that binds African nations together.
