Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has today 2 July 2024 signed the Prohibiting Child Marriage Bill into law.
The momentous occasion took place at the Freetown Conference Centre during the launch of the “We Are Equal” campaign.
President Bio highlighted the unwavering dedication of Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, who has been a relentless advocate for women’s and girls’ rights.
“Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has always championed women’s and girls’ rights issues with a very special passion. Together, we want to build an empowered Sierra Leone where women are given an even platform to reach their full potential,” he stated.
Emphasizing his long-held belief in the critical role of women in Sierra Leone’s future, President Bio declared, “I have always believed that the future of Sierra Leone is female. This and future generations of girls must thrive in a Sierra Leone in which they’re protected, equal, and empowered.”
The President extended his gratitude to the First Ladies who attended the event to support the “We Are Equal” campaign, inviting them to enjoy the renowned hospitality of Sierra Leone.
