In a significant diplomatic development, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone officially accepted the credentials of Ambassador Aidan Fitzpatrick, the newly appointed Ambassador of Ireland to Sierra Leone.
“Today, I received the credential of the Ambassador-designate of Ireland, Aidan Fitzpatrick. Sierra Leone and Ireland have enjoyed an enduring relationship that predates our formal diplomatic relationship, which began in 2002. Irish missionaries first came to Sierra Leone over 150 years ago, establishing a relationship of friendship and solidarity that endures to this day. Sierra Leone considers Ireland a strategic partner in our nation-building efforts, and we shall continue working together to advance mutually beneficial partnerships,” President Bio announced on Twitter.
Ambassador Fitzpatrick expressed the Irish Government’s commitment to collaborating with Sierra Leone to foster sustainable economic development and social progress.
“I look forward to enhanced partnership and diplomatic cooperation between our two nations,” President Bio added.
The Embassy of Ireland in Sierra Leone also expressed its enthusiasm for strengthening the long-standing lateral relationship between the two countries. They aim to advance development and economic cooperation between Ireland and the government and people of Sierra Leone.
Over several decades, Ireland and Sierra Leone have nurtured bilateral relations, with Sierra Leone benefiting significantly from Irish support and collaboration.
This renewed commitment between the two nations promises to further enhance their cooperation for the betterment of both societies.
