In a decisive move underscoring continuity and trust in leadership, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has officially re-appointed Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha as the Electoral Commissioner for the Southern Region.

Commissioner Alpha, who has been serving in this pivotal role since April 2019, will persist in his duties following his re-appointment on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

The renewal of Commissioner Alpha’s tenure was formally confirmed through a letter dispatched by Julius F. Sandy, Secretary to the Vice President.
The letter, personalized to Commissioner Alpha, states: “I write with reference to the above subject and to inform you that your initial tenure as Electoral Commissioner, Southern Region will expire on 9th April 2024. I am to also inform you that in accordance with Section 32 (7) (a) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991 (Act No. 6 of 1991), it has pleased His Excellency the President, Brig. (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio to renew your appointment for another five-year period with effect from 10th April, 2024. The Terms and Conditions of your appointment remain the same.”
