Connaught Hospital, a government-run facility serving thousands of patients, is facing a severe crisis due to frequent power outages. These blackouts are putting the lives of critically ill patients, particularly those relying on life-support machines like oxygen, at extreme risk.
Reports indicate that several patients have tragically lost their lives due to the lack of electricity needed to keep these essential medical devices functioning.
The situation has caused widespread distress among patients and their families, with many outraged by the government’s failure to address this life-threatening issue. Despite the hospital’s responsibility to provide vital healthcare services, it lacks a reliable backup generator to ensure a continuous power supply. Complaints from affected individuals highlight their shock and frustration over the absence of an effective contingency plan to prevent further deaths during power outages.
The public is demanding immediate action from the Ministry of Health and the hospital management. Many are questioning the role of the Health Minister in addressing these persistent blackouts and the hospital’s lack of a functional standby generator. This power crisis is not just an inconvenience but a life-or-death situation that demands urgent intervention.
For patients in critical care, or those dependent on medical equipment, the need for reliable electricity is non-negotiable. The government and health authorities must act swiftly to prevent more avoidable tragedies.
