FREETOWN — Sierra Leonean rapper and politician Natasha Beckley has issued an emotional appeal to First Lady Dr. Fatima Bio, after learning that she has been declared wanted by police over alleged drug-related offences.
In a statement released on social media, Beckley expressed shock that she discovered her “wanted” status online at the same time as the public. She claimed that at no point was she contacted or invited by the Sierra Leone Police before the announcement.
According to Beckley, despite reports that she has been listed as wanted since June, she has continued to make public appearances, including visits to police stations in August and October, without being informed of any such action.
The rapper denied any link to a Freetown residence allegedly tied to drug activity, insisting that her only property is in Port Loko.
“I am scared, not because I am guilty, but because I know those that make decisions just want to detain me to teach me a lesson,” she said.
Beckley further accused unnamed individuals of attempting to use the allegations to silence her voice and undermine her role in society.
She maintained that she has never been involved in drug trafficking, highlighting her record as an entertainer and youth advocate.
Making a direct appeal to Dr. Fatima Bio and other women in leadership, Beckley called for an impartial review of the accusations.
“I am not perfect, but I am a dreamer,” she declared, stressing her commitment to inspire young Sierra Leonean women despite the controversy.
Her legal team, she confirmed, has reached out to the police to arrange a formal meeting for questioning.
