The Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, has secured an agreement with the Chinese Embassy in Freetown to train provincial mayors in China.
The training will focus on green public works and social protection initiatives as part of Sierra Leone’s efforts to align with the government’s “Big Five” development priorities.
Sierra Leone faces significant challenges due to climate change, prompting the World Bank and NaCSA to implement a green public works project across the country. This project includes initiatives such as tree planting, waste management, and sewage disposal.
Ambassador Ndomahina, with experience as an ambassador to China, is leveraging China’s successful transformation of cities into green spaces and its social protection strategies that lifted millions out of poverty, as detailed in President Xi Jinping’s book “Up and Out of Poverty.”
The training program, supported by Chinese Ambassador Wang Qing, will include mayors from Port Loko, Makeni, Bo, Bonthe, Kenema, and Koidu-New Sembehun City.
This initiative aims to enhance the mayors’ capacity for implementing the World Bank project effectively, reflecting Commissioner Ndomahina’s commitment to President Bio’s human capital development agenda.
As Confucius said, “Acquire new knowledge whilst thinking over the old, and you may become a teacher of others.”
